The Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (BMRL) and its collaborators advance and apply magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and imaging (MRI) for the study of biological systems. BMRL scientists allow and motivate a “mouse to man” translation of MR methods developed through preclinical MR imaging. A major area of BMRL research is the improvement of MR techniques and data analysis procedures to provide a more complete understanding of the complex microstructure and governing biophysical and physiologic determinants of healthy and diseased mammalian tissues in the intact functioning state. The BMRL and the Small Animal Magnetic Resonance Facility provide the intellectual, instrumentation and peripheral resources to support state-of-the-art preclinical MR imaging to the Washington University, St. Louis region, national and international research communities.
The appointment is viewed as a training or transitional period preparatory to an academic, industrial, governmental, or other full-time research or teaching career. Used when the appointee performs specific services on a grant or contract in exchange for compensation. The appointment is of limited duration generally, not to exceed five years cumulatively unless there are extenuating circumstances. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training under the supervision of faculty mentors, including (but not limited to):
Manage their own project.
Develop proficiency in neuroimaging.
Develop proficiency in acquisition and analysis of functional connectivity MRI data from clinical and preclinical systems.
Assist in the design of research experiments.
Evaluate research findings and assist in the reporting of the results.
Develop proficiency in writing, public speaking, networking, and critical evaluation of scientific documents.
Present scientific work both inside and outside the University.
Assist with grant preparation and reporting.
Prepare and submit research papers.
Discharge their research responsibilities in a conscientious manner.
Adhere to ethical standards of research.
Maintain compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
Engage in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
Behave in a collegial fashion towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
Adhere to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations. All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.
Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, conduct research and records findings.
Two years of hands-on experience with acquisition, processing and analysis of MRI data.
Strong programming skills (Matlab, Python or C/C++).
