The Jackrel Lab is interested in hiring a research technician to work in the lab. Responsibilities will include performing independent research under the supervision of other scientists in the lab and assisting in the general organization and running of the lab. We study protein folding and misfolding, and how protein misfolding can lead to neurodegenerative disease.
Assists with general laboratory maintenance responsibilities (i.e. washing glassware, preparing media).
Trains other laboratory members in techniques and instrumentation use.
Attends laboratory meetings and prepares presentations of data.
Maintains instrumentation and facilitates repairs.
Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, genetics, neuroscience, or related areas and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling five years in a related field.
This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week.
Occasional work at night or on weekends may be required based on experimental requirements.

Basic skills in molecular biology, pure protein biochemistry, and/or yeast genetics.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as organizational skills.
General laboratory experience.
Ability to multitask.
The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.

This position involves exposure to a typical biochemistry laboratory environment with no specific chemical hazards. The ability to lift 20 pounds to organize and store laboratory supplies is required.
