Job Description Summary: Performs financial aid counseling to students and parents. Communicates student aid awards based on need, eligibility, program funding, and application requirements. Reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree preferred or at least 2 years of college coursework and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications Higher education operations experience or comparable area preferred
Essential Duties Counsels student and parents on financial aid programs; explains policies, procedures, and provides appropriate documentation. Reviews and evaluates student files to determine financial aid eligibility and for compliance with state, federal, and institutional guidelines. Assists Assistant Director in determining award recipients. Conducts presentations regarding financial aid opportunities consistent with the laws and regulations governing the programs. Performs verification process of student documentation set forth by the Department of Education. Informs students of financial aid results and re-evaluates documentation as necessary. Attends staff meetings to keep abreast of changes in the department. Verifies student academic progress; refers unsatisfactory changes in students academic progress to supervisor. Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the Financial Aid Department. Other duties as assigned.
